In this post pandemic era I’ve been trying my best to “get dressed” every day. Trying to leave the sportswear in the drawers for the gym, outdoor activities or just lounging. However there are always days where I hate everything in my closet and all I want is a spongey sweatshirt and jeans or a sweat set.
I live in a Nike household (and benefit from a healthy discount) but the hyper sportswear vibe is just…not my thing. Yet the cost of shopping for any non-sportswear fleece can get pricey at certain brands even with a cleaner supply chain. If it’s organic and from a fair trade factory I can get behind it but conventional cotton (and most likely not made in the best working conditions) I’m lifting an eyebrow. Regardless it still has me asking why pay $100+ when I could make something more me.
(If you’re interested in reading a bit further into our current apparel system and pricing, there was a great article via The New York Times about the true cost of a t-shirt in this era of fast fashion.)
Enter the Wren Fleece and Post Pant.
Then there’s the style aspect. I’ll always love a classic crewneck or jogger but also want the option of something with a little extra, which I don’t find a lot of in the market. Something with style lines, something that plays with proportion, something that has others doing a double take. This was the vibe I wanted to recreate for the Wren. It’s oversized but proportioned so that it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing something too many sizes too big. A large shoulder yoke that breaks up the silhouette and shorter sleeves with deep box pleats to give more volume and interest. The body is cropped and boxy (lengthen or shorten as you’d like obvs).
The Post were a more debatable design choice to tackle. I really wanted to pair the Wren with a bottom but it needed to be something that could flip into a “fancier” pant cut in an Italian knit ponte or even sized up in a woven with an invisible zipper entry. For anyone who hates the under bum excess, THESE ARE THE PANT! The only way to get rid of every millimeter of excess is via seaming and contouring (stretch fabric also helps).
Where can I get my hands on some delicious fleece with matching ribbing you ask?
Well I’ve teamed up with Lyrical who just released their fall/winter fleece + ribbing assortment. They’re offering a 10% discount (today through Sunday) when you purchase either the Wren or Post which is applicable to their entire fabric assortment (but you should definitely try the fleece bc it’s goooood). This is currently only available to US customers since international shipping can be, well, a nightmare.
*Code will be in the pattern download
*Ribbing comes as an add-on on the fleece product page
