Size Guide

CHOOSING THE RIGHT SIZE

Each Daughter Judy pattern is built individually when it comes to ease and how it will fit to your individual body. Some are built using relative ease so they may accommodate a fuller bust and figure than the base. Each pattern has its own unique section regarding ease and intended fit in the instructions file. It’s important to reference the finished measurements chart and compare against the body measurements chart. In some cases you may want to size up or down for desired final look.

Measure your chest and bust and compare those measurements to the body measurements chart favoring the chest. Working off of the chest will ensure the best fit in the shoulders and armholes. If you find that your bust, waist or hip do not fall in line with the selected size you may need to blend between sizes and make adjustments. However you should always reference the finished measurements chart before adjusting to see if adjustments are needed at all as some patterns will have ample ease.

For pants measure your hip at the largest position and compare to the chart. This will ensure enough saddle and thigh ease. The waist can be easily adjusted by taking from the side seams or larger bites from darts.

DD SIZING

Our DD size range is built on a base size of 12 at 5'6" tall and a B cup. B cup does not refer to bra sizing, this refers to the difference in inches between the chest and bust (A = 1", B = 2", C = 3", D = 4", etc.). Always compare finished garment measurements to your body measurements to see if you need to make any adjustments to the pattern.

JJ SIZING

Our JJ size range is built on a base size of 24 at 5'6" tall and a D cup. D cup does not refer to bra sizing, this refers to the difference in inches between the chest and bust (A = 1", B = 2", C = 3", D = 4", etc.). Always compare finished garment measurements to your body measurements to see if you need to make any adjustments to the pattern.

There are differences between the DD and JJ sizes 16–20 (XL-XXL and 1X-2X). The JJ sizes have narrower shoulders, fuller cups and rounder middle and hips. If you fall in one of these overlapping sizes we suggest finding your cup size by measuring your chest and bust. Each inch of difference equals a cup size; A = 1", B = 2", C = 3", D = 4", etc. If you are a D cup or larger we suggest our JJ range while a C cup or smaller will fit the DD range best. This ensures best fit through the shoulders however you may need to make additional adjustments based to bust, waist or hip measurements.

USING FABRIC WITH STRETCH FOR A NON-STRETCH PATTERN

You can absolutely make any of the non-stretch pant patterns with a stretch fabric though there are 2 things to consider. The first is if you want to size down for a closer fit since the fabric will have more give than non-stretch fabric. This will also depend on the amount of stretch in your fabric. Comfort stretch (1-3%) is preferred and if you go with a higher percentage you will likely need to do more pattern tweaking because of the way the pattern was built. All twill fabric will grow with or without stretch fibers so this is also something to always consider. Even stretch fibers will break over time and hold their shape less and less with wash and wear.

The second is that you'll definitely want to fuse the waistband here which is written as optional in most patterns because of the belting effect is can cause. Since there is stretch you may find the waistband grows too much if you omit the fuse. It is also suggested to stabilize the back rise for added structure there to prevent bagging in the rear. This would mean adding another row of stitching inside the seam allowance from the main sew line or applying narrow seam tape.
