Wren Fleece

From $14
Pattern No. 102

The Wren is an oversized crewneck sweatshirt with a large exaggerated shoulder yoke. Volumenous, slightly cropped sleeves are created by a deep box pleat at the opening. The neckband and cuffs were created with self fabric in mind but this quick and easy make also works well with ribbing.

Our patterns come in PDF format for use at home, copy shop or projecting with both size ranges included.

    Love this sweater

I measured in at size L for this sweater but made it in XS for my preferred ease. I lengthened the sleeves and cut out the neck hole in size XL due to comments I saw on Instagram. I used a cotton sweat fleece and love that it gives some structure to the garment. I also used ribbing for the cuffs and took those in to be a bit tighter.

I'd call myself an advanced beginner sewist. A challenge I had with sewing this sweater was aligning the notches on the curved seam that goes all the way around. It took me a few tries to pin it right. I also couldn't figure out the tension on my machine to topstitch down that curved seam - it got really wavy when I did it. So I just unpicked the topstitching and am happy with how it looks without it. Excluding the unpicking, this was a fast sew to make a nice, elevated basic. I love it and wear it all the time.

Fun to sew, love to wear

A really interesting and clever pattern. I made my first in a lightweight knit with lots of drape, so sized down. I love wearing it.

    Perfect

A fun sew! And a rtw looking piece at the end of it. Really loved that you can use the main fabric for the neckline and cuffs ~ finding matching ribbing is a pain. Love the style lines and the pleated sleeve ~ lots of compliments!
