The Monty is a pant that gives a lot while also being quite demure. The front pleats add just the right amount of volume while the back elastic gives you a waistband that doesn't punish you after lunch. The exposed zipper adds a little utility, a quiet flex. It has a higher waist fit, legs that taper to the ankle and is forgiving through the hip. These pants don't ask for attention, they get it anyway. Oh and there's a shorts view too *wink.

 

Our patterns come in PDF format for use at home, copy shop or projecting with both size ranges included. The DD range comes in sizes XS - XXL and the JJ range comes in sizes 1X - 5X.

Malak is wearing View A in a size S from the DD size range in Carefree Cotton Linen Twill from Blackbird Fabrics in color Cocoa. She is wearing View B in a size S from the DD size range in a 6 oz cotton from Mood. Her measurements are; 34"/26"/37" at 5'8".

Gabby is wearing a size 1X from the JJ size range in Carefree Cotton Linen Twill from Blackbird Fabrics in color Navy. Her measurements are: 42"/36"/46" at 5'8".

This pattern was created for light to mid weight woven pant fabrics; poplin/linen/canvas/tropical weight wool, etc. However, we believe you can make everything out of anything, feel free to contact us for advice if you’re feeling adventurous.

    So chic and fun to make!

    These pants are such a joy to make, just the right amount of challenging and learned new techniques while having my hand held firmly by the clear and easy to follow instructions. The end result is a pair of pants that is a workhorse in my wardrobe. Chic enough for the office, comfortable enough to lounge in at home -- win/win!

    Surprisingly easy sew!

    If you like easy, elastic waisted pants, you will want to add this one to your collection! This is a surprisingly easy sew, with the easiest zipper insertion technique I've ever tried. My ONLY complaint about the pattern is if you want a less voluminous fit (as shown in the shorts version and the striped pants version on Instagram), you will need to do some serious tweaking and/or sizing down. I should have reached out to Chelsea for advice, but after lots of unpicking, I'm actually quite happy with how mine turned out (welt pockets included!)

    Hunting for pants perfection

    A really fun make with elements such as the waistband, back welt pockets with stitched detailing and of course that zip really kept me interested whilst teaching me some new construction techniques. Having finished my wearable toile of the Monty I really am in love. A perfect style/comfort fusion! The design is so unique it makes them feel elevated and special. My quest for the perfect pants is complete ✨

    beautiful pattern!

    this was my first Daughter Judy pattern, but I'll definitely be tackling more of their catalog in the future after sewing up the Monty. The instructions were straightforward and led to a clean and precise finish, and the fit was perfect. I've sewn several welt pockets but got my best results ever (and with minimal stress!) with the way they were assembled here. Thank you!
