The Highland is the kind of pant that quietly replaces every other pair in your closet. Cut on the bias for a subtle, body skimming drape that moves before you do. Wear them high and secure or low and slouchy, you decide how they sit. This pant is quintessential minimal effort, maximum presence. 

 

Our patterns come in PDF format for use at home, copy shop or projecting with both size ranges included. The DD range comes in sizes XS - XXL and the JJ range comes in sizes 1X - 5X.

Kate is wearing a size S from the DD size range in a 3.2oz Sand Washed Cupro Rayon from Capital Fabric Supply in Sage. Her measurements are : 34"/27"/38" at 5'8".

Sheleah is wearing a size XL from the DD size range in a 4oz 100% Linen from Capital Fabric Supply in Black. Her measurements are: 38"/34"/45" at 5'9".

Anissa is wearing a size 3X from the JJ size range in a 4.6oz 100% Cotton High Twist Poplin from Capital Fabric Supply in Navy. Her measurements are : 48"/44"/56" at 5'6".

Elastic : 1/2” (12mm) Bias tape : 1/4" (6mm) double fold. Alternatively you can create bias out of self fabric but will need an extra 1/4 yd/m All-purpose thread in matching colors Needles : Universal 70/10 or 80/12 or appropriate for fabric Marking tool Edgestitch foot, 1/16", 1/4" (optional)

Fabric Recommendation

This pattern was created for mid weight woven fabrics: linen, poplin, cupro, etc. However, we believe you can make everything out of anything. Feel free to contact us for advice if you're feeling adventurous.

    Great fit

    They fit perfectly – they’re loose trousers, but not overly wide‑leg. I added pockets and they don’t look distracting at all (to be fair, I used black fabric, and black hides a lot). I’ve already bought a stretch fabric for my second pair. I won’t cut those on the bias because of the elastane content, so I’m curious to compare the two.

    A little tighter than expected…

    I made a toile and even when I chose the size according to my hip measurements (107 cms, so size L), I feel it a little tight in the bum.

    I just got the fabric for my second try, and I’m debating whether I size up and risk getting a puffy look or make a full seat adjustment to give me a little extra space. Or maybe tweak the back rise line a little bit.

    Will need to evaluate both options.

    Not that I’m quite full in that area, but my bum is round shaped and I sometimes burst the seams in the back rise seam… so that might solve the tight feeling.

    I recommend making a toile before cutting your nice fabric, just in case.

    Also, given the bias cut of the pants, a cutting guide specific for this garment should be included in the instructions. The generic that it has is not helpful when arranging the pattern to cut the fabric. A diagram showing this pattern in the cutting guide would be awesome.

    Be extra careful in this step, so you don’t mess up like I did. I think someone posted a suggestion over instragram. Maybe looking for the tag will help you find it.

    But it should be in the instruction booklet…

    All in all, I loved the shape of these pants, and once I tweak the fit I know I will be wearing them constantly.

    new favorite summer pants

    these pants in a lighter cotton poplin are actually the ideal summer pants. dare I say they feel even cooler than shorts on a hot day?? and simple enough to be made in one day. I want to make more in a million colors!

    Wonderful pants!

    I never thought I would love bias pants, but these are amazing. I made them in 185g washed linen and they hang like a dream, look super good and are so comfortable that I am about to cut another pair out immediately. They're the perfect leg width too.

    Now all we need is a Daughter Judy pattern for louche, cool pants like these to be cut on the straight grain for the really difficult fabrics - please!
