Thompson Coat

Thompson Coat

Rated 4.7 out of 5 stars

The Thompson is the sort of jacket that looks equally at home in the country as it does leaning against subway tiles. Comfortably oversized with plenty of room for layering thanks to its raglan sleeve construction. It also comes with a detachable hood option in case you want to flip this style into the ultimate oilskin Barbour-esque jacket. Classic is silhouette to make any unintentional outfit feel more intentional.

If you're looking to line your Thompson, see the lining expansion which also includes lining for the detachable hood.

Our patterns come in PDF format for use at home, copy shop or projecting with both size ranges included. The DD range comes in sizes XS - XXL and the JJ range comes in sizes 1X - 5X.

The pattern is well drafted but the length of the view A is weird..

The pattern is well drafted and the instructions are easy, however, I think the CB lengths listed for view A are wrong. I ended up with a jacket that is shorter than expected after completing the sewing, so I measured the CB length on the digital files (projector and A0). They included the folded hem (with the seam allowance of the fold) even though they excluded the seam allowance from the neckline. The lengths on the view B is correct.

    Great design, great coat!

I have made the short jacket version TWICE in 2 weeks time, that's how much I love this pattern. The cut is really comfortable, the pockets are deep (and yes, the welt pockets are a bit a tricky technically, but it is well explained). I'll be wearing my coats whenever possible.

I used a cotton twill both times, came out really good. I finished the edges with bias tape, I would have liked a general idea of how much tape I would need to be included in the pattern but there wasn't (I used about 9m).

    Lovely coat, beautiful detailing

I made this coat from a waterproof fabric and love the finished result. Will make again in a wool or similar for winter.

    Jacket version

I have only made the calico toile but it's the first time I have never had to make a forward shoulder adjustment or tweak a pattern for fit apart from adding 1cm to the sleeve length. I went down a size as I didn't want it too oversized, this works well with a thickish jumper underneath, still plenty of room. I have cut it out in a wool coating and will line it. I think it's a beautiful jacket I will wear a lot.
